You finish on the floor, breathing slow, and the heat leaves you in about two minutes. The sweat goes cold across your back. You reach for whatever’s in the bag, and it’s thin and papery, the kind of fleece that sits on you without ever warming anything.
This is the opposite of that. The Half Moon Rest crewneck is a 9.5 oz/yd² garment dyed sweatshirt from Comfort Colors, which means real weight across the shoulders the second it goes on, and a soft faded colour that already looks like you’ve owned it two winters.
What you are getting
- 9.5 oz/yd² fabric — heavy enough that it traps the heat you just made on the mat, so the cool-down after a long session stops being the worst part of it.
- 80% ring-spun cotton, 20% polyester — ring-spun means the yarn is combed smooth before it’s knit, so the inside sits against bare skin without scratch, and the polyester keeps the body from twisting out of shape.
- Relaxed fit — room through the chest and sleeve to sit cross-legged, roll your shoulders, or pull your knees in without the hem riding up your back.
- Sewn-in twill label — nothing printed on your neck to scratch at you an hour in.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified dyes — the colour has been tested for harmful substances, which matters on something you’ll wear on warm skin.
- Sizes S to 3XL — the same relaxed cut across the range, so the oversized look is a size choice rather than a gamble.

What garment dyed actually means
Most sweatshirts are knit from yarn that was already coloured. A garment dyed sweatshirt is sewn first, then dropped into the dye as a finished piece. The colour settles into the seams and the surface rather than the core of the fibre, which is why it reads soft and slightly washed from day one and keeps fading gently in your direction. It’s also why no two are identical.
The honest part about a heavy garment dyed crewneck
It’s warm. At 9.5 oz this is an after-practice layer for a cold room in late autumn, not something you’ll want on in a heated studio or in July. There are no pockets and no hood — it’s a plain crewneck, so if you want somewhere to put your hands, buy a zip hoodie instead. Garment dyeing also shifts slightly from batch to batch, so a second one ordered next year may not match this one exactly. And the fit is genuinely relaxed, so anyone who wants a close, tailored shape should size down or look elsewhere.
Who this is for
For you if you want one heavy, soft thing to pull on over damp practice clothes and keep on for the rest of the evening. Not for you if you need something light and fitted, or built for a hot room.
Care
Wash cold, inside out, with similar colours — the first couple of washes can release a little pigment. Tumble dry low. Skip bleach and fabric softener; both flatten the dyed finish.
