Class ends. You’re warm, slightly damp, and the parking lot is fifteen degrees colder than the room you just left. You stand there with a mat under one arm, digging for something to put on, and the thin hoodie in your bag does nothing. That gap between finishing and getting home is where most people lose the calm they just built.
The Sleepy Crane is a garment dyed sweatshirt built to close that gap. Heavy cotton, soft from the first wear, relaxed enough to go straight over a sports bra or a sweaty tee without clinging. It’s the thing you reach for without thinking, which is the only real test a sweatshirt has to pass.
What you are getting
- Comfort Colors garment-dyed crewneck – the blank people already know by feel. Broken-in from day one, no stiff period.
- 9.5 oz/yd² fabric – genuinely heavy. It blocks wind in a car park and holds its shape instead of drooping at the hem after a month.
- 80% ring-spun cotton, 20% polyester – ring-spun means a smoother yarn against the skin; the polyester keeps the body from twisting and shrinking out of true in the wash.
- Relaxed fit, S to 3XL – room through the chest and shoulders, so you can raise your arms to pull it off without a wrestling match.
- Sewn-in twill label – no printed tag cracking and itching at the back of your neck by month three.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified dyes – the colour that sits closest to your skin for hours has been tested for harmful substances.

What a garment dyed sweatshirt actually is
Normal sweatshirts are sewn from pre-coloured fabric. This one is sewn first, then dropped into the dye as a finished garment. The pigment settles into the cotton unevenly on purpose, which is why garment dyed and pigment dyed pieces have that soft, slightly faded, lived-in tone instead of a flat factory colour. It also means the fabric has already shrunk and relaxed before it reached you.
The honest part about a heavy crewneck
Two things. It has no pockets — if you came looking for a pigment dyed sweatshirt with a kangaroo pouch for your phone, this isn’t it. And 9.5 oz is warm. In a heated studio or on an August evening you’ll overheat in it, so if you want one layer that works year-round, buy something lighter. Garment dye also behaves like garment dye: tone varies slightly piece to piece, and it fades gently over years. Some people buy it for exactly that. If you want a colour that stays identical to the photo forever, choose a screen-printed standard blank instead.
Who this is for
For anyone who travels to and from practice in real weather and wants one solid layer that lives in the bag. Not for you if you need pockets, a hood, or something thin enough to train in.
Care
Wash cold, inside out, with similar colours — the first couple of washes shed a little surface pigment, which is normal for garment dyed clothes. Tumble low or hang dry. Skip bleach and fabric softener; both dull the dye.
