What garment dyed actually means

Most sweatshirts are cut and sewn from fabric that was already dyed. A garment dyed sweatshirt is sewn first in raw form, then dyed whole. The color settles into the seams and the surface rather than sitting evenly through every yarn, so the finish looks lived-in on day one and softens further from there. It also means no two pieces are identical twins.

The honest part about heavyweight garment dye

Two things to know. First, the weight cuts both ways: 9.5 oz is warm and slow to dry, so it is a poor choice for a hot studio bag or a summer layer. If you want something you can stuff in a tote in July, buy a light tee instead. Second, dye lots vary. If you order this now and another one in six months, the shades may not match exactly, and there is no pocket, no hood and no drawstring on this crewneck. If you need a pocket or a precisely uniform color, look at a standard screen-printed fleece rather than a pigment-style dyed piece.

Care

Wash garment dyed clothes cold, inside out, with like colors, and skip the bleach. Tumble dry low or hang it. A little color may release in the first wash or two, which is normal for dyed-after-sewing cotton. Cold water and low heat keep the fit and the shade where you found them.
