You finish on the floor. Last exhale, hips still open, and then the room gets cold fast. That gap between the end of a session and the rest of your day is where you reach for whatever is draped over the chair — and it’s usually too thin or too stiff, or it was never really yours to begin with.
This is the thing you reach for instead. The Arching Otter sits on a Comfort Colors garment dyed sweatshirt, a crewneck dyed after it was sewn, so the colour sits soft and lived-in rather than flat on top of the fabric. It feels broken in on day one, which is what you want from the layer that goes on while your body is still warm.
What you are getting
- 9.5 oz/yd² fabric. Heavy. It hangs off the shoulders instead of clinging to a warm back, and it won’t go thin or see-through after a season of washes.
- 80% ring-spun cotton, 20% polyester. Ring-spun fibres are twisted smooth, so the inside face is kind against bare skin when you throw it on with nothing underneath. The polyester keeps the body from stretching out at the shoulders.
- Relaxed fit. Room to lift both arms overhead and to sit cross-legged without the hem pulling up off your lower back.
- OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified dyes. The dyes have been tested for harmful substances — worth knowing for something that sits against your skin for hours after a session.
- Sewn-in twill label. No printed tag scratching the nape of your neck when your head tips back into a stretch.
- S to 3XL. Size as normal for a loose fit, or go down one if you want it closer to the body.

What garment dyed actually means
A standard sweatshirt is made from fabric that was dyed on the roll, then cut and sewn. A garment dyed sweatshirt is sewn first in raw cotton and dropped in the dye bath as a finished piece. The dye settles unevenly into seams and fibres, which gives you that soft, slightly faded depth you’d normally only get after two years of wear.
The honest part about garment-dyed cotton
Garment dyeing isn’t precise. Shade varies a little batch to batch, so your sweatshirt may read a touch deeper or lighter than someone else’s, and it will soften and fade gently with time rather than staying showroom-new. Expect a small amount of shrinkage in the first hot wash.
There are also no pockets. It’s a plain crewneck, so if you came looking for a pigment dyed sweatshirt with a kangaroo pocket, buy something else. And at 9.5 oz it’s genuinely warm: wear it before and after, not during a flow. For practice itself, a lightweight tee is the better call.
Who this is for
For anyone who wants one heavy, soft crewneck that handles the cool-down, the walk home and the next morning. Not for you if you want a thin, fitted sweatshirt that keeps an exact factory colour forever.
Care
Wash cold, inside out, with like colours for the first few washes. Tumble low or hang dry. No bleach.
